Ancient Greeks told the story of the Minoan civilisation’s transition to Athens through the myth of Theseus and Ariadne. The brave Athenian king defeats the Minotaur in order to win over Ariadne. It is thought that Theseus took more than just Ariadne from Crete though. He also took the art of winemaking, which outlived the ancient Greeks by hundreds of years.
One thing is for certain. The sophisticated Minoans cultivated vines and made wine, learning in turn from the majestic ancient Egyptians.
