Ladikino is a red wine grape variety of eastern origin which was most likely transferred from Laodikeia (Laodikeia>Laodikino>Ladikino) of Syria to Crete during the Αlexandrian times (Logothetis 1975). The “ladikinos oenos” was widely known for its medicinal properties, and due to the quality characters of the must, it was part of the Cretan Malvasia blend. The cultivation of grapevine variety Ladikino is recommended for the viticultural area of Crete, where it occupies a surface area of 20 ha, and at the same time it participates in the synthesis of multi-varietal vineyards.
