Cardinal is a red seeded grapevine variety which ripens early. It is the product of crossing between grapevine varieties Flame Tokay and Ribier (Snyder and Harmon 1939). Recent data (Akkak et al. 2007) question the participation of the variety Flame Tokay. In Greece, the cultivation of Cardinal is recommended for the viticultural areas of Peloponnese, Central Greece, Thessaly, Macedonia, Cyclades, Dodecanese, Ionian islands and Crete.
